Rachel & Leah

So, I didn't even finish the book. I didn't really like it. I usually finish books whether I sort of like them or not...just so the suspense doesn't kill me. There have only been a few books that I've put down without finishing, mostly because they go against my beliefs and standards.

This book doesn't go against my standards or anything. I just don't really like the writing style of Orson Scott Card. I've read another book by him that isn't scripture based, and dragged myself to the ending...I had hoped that this book would be better, but I guess not.

So, with that...I guess since only one person voted on the next book...I'll induldge them. We will now read "The City of Falling Angels" by what's his bucket. I'll get the author to you as soon as I post this....post.

The King's Shadow
by Elizabeth Alder

As one of my favorites from college, I read this book waiting for the 2 weeks to come up on the poll. Sorry, I just HAVE to read! If you like historical fiction, you'll like this book. It takes place in 11th centuty England. Evyn, a Welsh serf, finds himself in the service of the future King. But there's a twist...of course. Evyn has had his tongue cut out as a result of a fued, early in the book. As a result, he's ridiculed and scoffed. But those who show interest in him and care for him the most will end up influencing his life more than anything.

I highly recommend this book. It's a nice refresher from the typical fantacy fiction that I read most often. I always want to learn more about English History after reading this book. Since historical fiction is based on actual events and facts, the ending of this book is not your typical fairy tale ending.

A Red-Haired Queen & Talking Creatures

The Icemark Chronicles has become a fast favorite of all my books. It's hard to choose favorites, but I'd definately put these in the top 10.

"The Cry of the Icemark" is about a young girl who's made Queen before her time. She makes desperate allies, with the aid of a warlock, to fight with her against the evil Empire. But those allies are not your typical people...they're warewolves, vampires, and giant snow leopards. We'll see if our red-haired queen and her talking creature allies can win this war!

The second book, "Blade of Fire," is about this Queen's family and one of the major battles between the Empire and the Icemark. Her old allies are still loyal, but will they come in time. Also, there's an unexpected betrayal that could affect the outcome of their survival.

A three-day-weekend trilogy

If you haven't already read these books, you've got to!

The Bartimaeus Trilogy
I read each one in about a day...so, if you have a three-day-weekend coming up, grab them and be prepared to read fast! (I also read them with the Audio CD's...highly recommendable as well. Check them out from your library. The narrator is really good.)

"The Amulet of Samarkand"

"The Golem's Eye"

"Ptolemy's Gate"

The Land of Elyon

I love this trilogy...It's such easy reading, but keeps you interested throughout the whole thing. So, not only is the trilogy good, Mr. Carman wrote a prequel to this wonderful tale.

"Into the Mist" talks about the two brothers, Thomas and Roland Warvold, as young children looking for answers and getting themselves into more and more adventures along the way.
