The King's Shadow
by Elizabeth Alder

As one of my favorites from college, I read this book waiting for the 2 weeks to come up on the poll. Sorry, I just HAVE to read! If you like historical fiction, you'll like this book. It takes place in 11th centuty England. Evyn, a Welsh serf, finds himself in the service of the future King. But there's a twist...of course. Evyn has had his tongue cut out as a result of a fued, early in the book. As a result, he's ridiculed and scoffed. But those who show interest in him and care for him the most will end up influencing his life more than anything.

I highly recommend this book. It's a nice refresher from the typical fantacy fiction that I read most often. I always want to learn more about English History after reading this book. Since historical fiction is based on actual events and facts, the ending of this book is not your typical fairy tale ending.
